  3. AUT in brief 1951 5 faculties - agriculture, economics, food technology, forestry, vet medicine 19 departments - agriculture, rural development food and natural resources

Information literacy at AUT – What we had at project start • AUT publishes two scientific journals: • Albanian Journal of Agricultural Sciences • Economy and Agribusiness Both journals are with editorial board and peer review process IPR on information and ethics are given due attention • Two library - at University and FEA level • Access to TEEAL (The Essential Electronic Agricultural Library - a digital collection of research journals for agriculture) • Anecdotic access to other online databases • Limited services to students

What have we already done • Project presented e at the Rector’s office • Individual interviews with the deans/vice deans of all faculties of AUT regarding introduction of IL into Curricula • The project has been publicly presented at AUT premises • Project important documents distributed to the deans • Guidelines for planning IL distributed to the deans

What have we already done • Need assessment of IL users has been conducted • Three important documents have already been published in Albanian • Guidelines • IL integration in academic curricula • IL harmonized content These documents were displayed at the International Trade Fair organized in Tirana during 25-27 November 2

  15. Additional project positive externalities – not planned • Networking with other universities • Positive steps towards equipment of AUT Library with books and PC, in cooperation with LIT and librarians of Middlesex University

  16. Prospects Long terms challenging process!

  17. Remaining challenges • Limited cooperation between professors and librarians • Still limited professors awareness and knowledge on IL – not adequately addressed • High students to professor ratio, making coaching very difficult • Still limited access to scientific literature

  18. Still sustainable… • Online IL modules by accessing University of Korça server • Positive experiences from both professors and students dealing with IL modules will create advocacy for the issue

  19. Comments • Project website not operational • IL on line module still not accessible, or at least we don’t know

Information literacy at AUT • We have several computer labs with internet access • AUT also possesses two HP servers - 500 GB each (one of them is accessed by AUT secretaries for their purposes) • Internet is accessible in all AUT premises • AUT academic staff has access to TEEAL(The Essential Electronic Agricultural Library - a digital collection of research journals for agriculture and related sciences )

  23. Information literacy at AUT • We do not have any online modules with respect to IL • We do not have any formal networking in terms of IL with Western Balkan countries

Information literacy at AUT - Library • Founded in 1953, and used to be the most important center for documentation and information in agriculture in Albania • AULT fund was 200 000 volumes (books, periodicals and other holdings) • Due to a fatal accident in 1997 everything that the library owned was destroyed • At present, AUTL possesses slightly more than 15 000 books in Albanian and foreign languages

  25. Information literacy at AUT - Library • The total periodicals are 1500 units + CD-Roms • AUTL has: • 60 titles of foreign journals • 20 titles of Albanian journals (10.000 volumes) • 16 titles of Albanian newspapers • 190 theses/dissertations • The technological equipment is poor

Information literacy at AUT - Library Information section: • makes the correction and arrangement of new books and periodical files • informs users through lists of new entrances • records in the topographic card the books falling out the circulation • disseminates information prepared by AUTL staff, and information obtained from counterpart libraries, organizations and institutions Information is provided through internet and CD-Rom

Information literacy at AUT - Library Automation: The library of AUT: • uses ABEKT 5.5 software • owns one server and  several computers (old) Library type: Scientific Library Subject index: • Agriculture • Veterinary Medicine • Forestry • Economics • Nature Science • Food Science and Technology
