Overview of ARTP • Regulations apply to all taught programmes • Standardised institutional framework since 2004 • National benchmarks & expectations (QAA Quality Code) • General and specific exceptions • Regulations are approved annually • Consultation and approval process • Student undertaking at (re-)registration (S1 or S2) • Exceptional simultaneous introduction of changes • Regulations are supported by other policies and procedures (Academic Handbook) • Regulations cannot legislate for all eventualities

ARTP on Assessment • Marking (0-100 or Pass/Fail grade; moderation) • Penalties for late submission of work ( key change 12/13) • Personal Mitigating Circumstances (PMCs) ( key change 12/13) • Academic misconduct penalties (e.g. 0 for component/ module) • Reassessment/retakes (From 2011/12 no retake for NS in final component of failed module at first attempt) • Compensation (Automatic - 20 credits/Discretionary - 40 credits) • Progression (pass one level/stage before progressing to next) • Awards & classification (Honours classification scheme under review) • Module/Programme Boards of Examiners ( change 12/13) • Results (student information system and communication) • Academic appeals

Key 2012/13 change: Late Submission • Reduction of 2-week late submission period to 4 working days to promote timely submission and facilitate swifter assessment feedback (i.e. within 15 working days of assessment deadline) • Daily penalties (5 marks per working day or part thereof) to encourage submission earlier during late period • Automated calculation of penalised mark dependent on Gradebook input • No effect on failed marks; no reduction of pass mark beyond minimum pass mark

Key 2012/13 change: Late Submission (continued) • Weekend included in late submission period - Mondays are excluded from submission due dates (as well as dates on which UoS is closed) • Change introduced simultaneously for all students (S1 and S2 intakes) • Setting of submission dates should factor in late period (and SSP extensions) to avoid potential inequities • Late submission not permissible for final project stage of Masters degrees – fixed-term extensions are available for writing up

  8. Key 2012/13 change: PMCs • Late, absence or non submission only • No PMC for standard of performance • PMCs must be submitted within 10 working days of submission date/date of assessment • Students declare themselves fit to undertake assessments through submission/attendance • Re-engineered process - consideration of PMCs by Reviewers on rolling basis • Change to Regulation introduced simultaneously for all students (S1 and S2 intakes)

Other Key 2012/13 Changes • Compensation • No compensation for module including component with 0% penalty mark for academic misconduct • Minimum 20% final component mark applies at L7 • Module retake subject to availability • Retake attendance requirements as for first take • At least half of ITQ credit to have been accumulated at UoS • Two-tiered Boards of Examiners • Accreditation of partner institutions (e.g. TMC)
