  1. Disease Detectives • In this case study simulation you will be part of an epidemiological team. The other members of the team have the same color folder as you do. You should now sit with the other members of your team.

  2. Investigation • Each member of your team has a investigation sheet in their folder to tell them which aspect of the investigation they will handle. The three areas of investigation are: Epidemiology, Physician’s Investigation, and Laboratory Investigation. There are red folders; one for each area of investigation. Meet with your investigative colleagues and thoroughly review the collected information.

  3. Collaboration • Return to your investigative group and go through the evidence each of you has gathered carefully and write up your final reports and be prepared to discuss your findings.

  4. vocabulary • There is a set of glossary sheets in each investigation folder. Some of the terms you may be unfamiliar with are: • Epidemiology- The study of the factors influencing frequency and distribution of disease. • Endemic Disease-Disease which is present in a population, usually at a low level. • Re-emerging Disease- A disease which has existed in a population at a very low level and for some reason is becoming more common. • Emerging Disease- A disease which is new to a population.
