  1. 5 Tips to follow when you Travel to Hong Kong

  2. Being a former British colony to an autonomous territory, Hong Kong is a sparkling and densely populated country in south-eastern china. It is one of the world’s important financial centres and commercial port. Travel to Hong Kong for the first time is really amazing and worth it. However one must keep in mind few travel tips to make the trip easier and exciting. Let’s get a practical view starting with the knowledge of Hong Kong dollar which is $1USD = $7.84HK. There are many things that most of the first time visitors are ignorant about like visa procedures, accommodation facilities, areas of shopping, beaches, country parks, commutation and many tourist attractions etc.

  3. Important cards to carry: – The most important thing is carrying an international debit or credit card with us while travelling to Hong Kong. Detailed information about the charges must be cleared with the card provider about the charges per usage. Getting a tourist octopus card after or before arriving in Hong Kong is a must have to ease roaming in Hong Kong. It is a contactless smart card which is mostly used to pay for in most public transport, on the MTR buses, fast food restaurants, super markets, photo booths, parking meters, minibuses, ferries, trams, and nowadays even in few taxies where octopus reader is available. Also octopus is used for entering an office building, schools, and residential buildings at certain places. The best octopus card is the On-loan Octopus which has a refundable deposit amount that covers the card cost.

  4. Transfer procedure: – It is always better to be on time for the transfer procedure as the shuttle at the Hong Kong international airport waits for only 10 minutes for SIC transfer i.e. seat in coach and for private transfers the cab drivers wait for 20 minutes only. Gate number is mentioned on the voucher hence head accordingly. For a direct ferry service to the Macau, one must use HKIA Sky Pier service. The Turbojet Airport Routes check-in counter closes in 75 minutes. Original passport which is valid for at least next six months with a blank page, tickets, and details of travel agent if any, 2 photographs that contains 70% of the face must be carried with. Photographs are required for visa on arrival.

  5. Shopping: – Hong Kong is a place of neon lit retail and most of the international brands have their outlets here. Bargaining is prevalent stores that are operated by owners and in certain markets. It is always recommend checking prices in different shops before buying in a particular shop at a price.

  6. Eateries: – There are many small food street stalls in Hong Kong. Cantonese dishes are famous and is major part. Chopsticks are mostly given and not forks hence one must practice eating with chopsticks. In some places tea is given without adding sugar, we can sweeten it as per our liking.

  7. Accommodation and Communication: – This is the most important part of the Hong Kong trip and one has to do a thorough study about it. Guesthouses in Hong Kong are good clean, comfortable to stay at but mostly prefer licensed guesthouses. There are budget foods in Hong Kong too. TsimShaTsui is the best place to stay for the first time visitors while Mong Kok is for people looking for budget. Communication can become a barrier in certain cases like shopping or while asking the way. All locals don’t have good knowledge of English. English should be spoken slowly without using difficult or fancy words. One must learn Cantonese phrases online as it is good to have knowledge of the same.
