UPGRADE AND MODERNISATION OF RAILWAY LINE DIRECTION BOTOVO– ZAGREB–RIJEKA Importance for the RoC: connects central and maritime part of the country, Connects agriculture and tourism, connects industrial potential of the country with port capacities in the Rijeka basin, enables significant development of the Rijeka Port on the Adriatic and places corridor Vb among competitive railway corridors. Importance for the RoC andthe EU: the shortest railway connection between Hungary, other Central European countries and Mediterranean, encourages the development of the Rijeka Port and transit railway traffic between Croatia and Central Europeancountries, provides opportunity for subsequent development of transit railway traffic between Western Europe and the Balkans via Croatia, hassignificant influence on environmental protection due to redirection of large volumesof freight from road to railway.

Road tunnels Road tunnels are built on motorways and some state roads. Total number of tunnels is 81 and total length is over 95,4 km.
Road tunnels On the state road between motorway A1 and state road D8 a new tunnel will be built near Stupica. Total length of tunnel will be 185 m and it should be finished in 3 months.
Railroad tunnels Total number of railroad tunnels is 109 and total length is over 29,6 km
