  1. Life is challenging, God is Sovereign!!

  2. Job’s Story 1:8God said to Satan, "Have you noticed my friend Job? There's no one quite like him—honest and true to his word, totally devoted to God and hating evil."

  3. 1:12 God replied, "We'll see. Go ahead—do what you want with all that is his. Just don't hurt him." Then Satan left the presence of God.

  4. Job’s response • 1:22 Not once through all this did Job sin; not once did he blame God.

  5. His wife’s response • 2:9,10 His wife said, "Still holding on to your precious integrity, are you? Curse God and be done with it!"  10 He told her, "You're talking like an empty-headed fool. We take the good days from God—why not also the bad days?"    Not once through all this did Job sin. He said nothing against God.

  6. His friends response: • 2:12,13 When they first caught sight of him, they couldn't believe what they saw—they hardly recognized him! They cried out in lament, ripped their robes, and dumped dirt on their heads as a sign of their grief. Then they sat with him on the ground. Seven days and nights they sat there without saying a word. They could see how rotten he felt, how deeply he was suffering. • Job and his friends dialogue

  7. God speaks to Job for the first time • 38:2,3 Why do you confuse the issue? Why do you talk without knowing what you're talking about?Pull yourself together, Job!  Up on your feet! Stand tall!I have some questions for you, and I want some straight answers.

  8. 40:1,2  God then confronted Job directly: "Now what do you have to say for yourself?    Are you going to haul me, the Mighty One, into court and press charges?"

  9. 40:4,5 • Job answered:    "I'm speechless, in awe—words fail me. I should never have opened my mouth! I've talked too much, way too much. I'm ready to shut up and listen."

  10. God again addresses Job • 40:6  I have some more questions for you, and I want straight answers.

  11. Lessons Job learned: • 42:2 I know that you can do all things;  no purpose of yours can be thwarted. • God is God

  12. 42:3 You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’ Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know. • I am not God

  13. 42:5My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. • Tough times give me opportunity to know God in deeper ways • Job learnt to trust God when there was no reason or evidence to

  14. 42:6 Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.” • Repent not rebel

  15. 42:12 God blessed Job's later life even more than his earlier life. • Job was blessed more than before
