Exploring North Carolina's Geography: Understanding Major Geographic Features

In this assignment, students will explore the major geographic features of North Carolina, including its coastal plains, Appalachian Mountains, and central plains. Through a series of activities, including online resources from Discovery Education and an NC map activity, students will learn to identify and describe various regions and their characteristics. Additionally, students will write a reflection on which region they would prefer to settle in if they were among the first settlers in America. NC Map Activity • Using the NC Map and pp A14-A15 in text, label: • Regions (coast, piedmont, mountains) • Mountains (Great Smokey Mountains and Appalachian Mountains • Major cities (Asheville, Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh, Wilmington, Fayetville) • Major waters (Atlantic Ocean, Pamlico Sound, Albemarle Sound) • Cape Fear, Cape Lookout, Cape Hatteras • Writing: If you were a settler coming to America for the first time, which region would you like to live in and why? At least 5 sentences.
