Aims & Objectives • Recap prior learning of areas covered so far for TV Drama. • Go through some other general terminology YOU MUST use in a Section A answer. • Go through some important areas for Disability and Sexuality SHOULDyou get a question on this area of representation in the exam. • Analyse the 4 Technical areas in a sequence that constructs the representation of Disability – We will then do the same for Sexuality, which you will complete for Homework • Review the learning. Why? So you are aware of the expectations for the Exam on May 13thfor Section A (50 Marks)

  5. When you go on to the BLOG, there is an electronic version of the Micro Features booklet you were given at the beginning of the year. It is under the page Useful Links – AS and Section A: TV DRAMA TEXTUAL ANALYSIS (50 Marks) – Resources This details the examples YOU MUST be prepared to use when addressing the area of representation.

General terminology YOU MUST use in a Section A answer. • Stereotype– YOU MUST establish how stereotypesare presented and/or challenged in the exam through ALL of the 4 Technical areas. • YOU DO NOT need to give a definition of this key term! • Verisimilitude/Realism– YOU MUST establish the notion of how reality is presented (or represented) in the sequence you are shown and in your analysis part of the paragraph explain HOW this ties into the area of representation. • YOU DO NOT need to give a definition of this key term!

  8. This is the sort of terminology/issues YOU MUST consider if you are presented with a Question that asks you to consider the representation of Disability. Do you agree with any of these?

  10. DISABILITY • Consider the impact of the representation on the audience. • Do we feel some form of personal attachment OR affinity to the character for trying to overcome a dilemma/obstacle? • Do they succeed OR fail?

DISABILITY • Make sure your examples are always tied into the area of representation (we will go through this on the next slide) YOU SHOULD try and follow a Point – Evidence – Analysis structure, for example: Point – The representation of disability as being a burden and something that is a weakness is expressed in the sequence through the use of camera. Evidence – For example, the technical code of a high camera angle is used to represent CHARACTER to be… Analysis – This example signifies how the audience will understand this stereotype of people who are disabled as being….   12. Unit G322: Key Concepts (TV Drama) Main Task – 20 Minutes Disability Example YOU MUST analyse EACH the technical areas below to establish HOW Disability is represented in the sequence from….. YOU SHOULD divide your exercise books into 4 columns and make notes on EACH of the technical areas – YOU SHOULD aim to identify 3-4 examples fro EACH Technical area. You will be shown the sequence FOUR TIMES and you will need to make notes/plan your answer in between each screening. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO MAKE NOTES DURING THE FIRST SCREENING.

Discuss the ways in which the extract constructs the representation of Disability using the following: 1 minute – Write your introduction. 10 minutes – Camera shots, angles, movement, composition 10 minutes – Editing 10 minutes – Sound 10 minutes – Mise-en-scene “The use of technical area represents Disability to be…” 2 minutes – Conclusion 2 minutes – Proof read your answer and check you followed a PEA structure.

THEN, you need to analyse one of the sequences available to watch and answer the following question: 1.
