  2. Technology Update April 2007 • Revisit Goals for 2006 - 2007 School Year • Review Updated Technology Plan • Identify On-going Risks to Technology • Plans for Summer 2007

Summary of Goals for 2006 - 2007 • Complete data migration to new storage device, rebuild servers and domain controller. • Separate Website from First Class and redesign district level and school level sites. • Upgrade wiring closets based on priority and need. • Complete due diligence on SIS system and implement best solution. • Implement emergency notification system. • Pilot interactive white board solution.

On-going Risks to Technology • Replacement Cycle • Need commitment for annual funding • Technology Policies • Acceptable Use (AUP) for Faculty and Students • Compliance (IE: Electronic archiving) • Scalability & Security of Infrastructure • Need to make infrastructure more resilient • Constant need to evaluate inside and outside threats.

  6. Replacement Cycle • So what’s the issue? • There is no line item within the Technology Operating Budget to replace equipment or software! • How do we address it? • Override? • Capital Funding? • Other?

  7. Replacement Cycle • Three groups of technology equipment and software are used within the schools we address when it comes to replacement cycle: 1. Computer Room Devices • Servers, storage, security & backup devices and proactive monitoring tools. 2. Wiring Closet Devices • Routers, switches and cabling. 3. Classroom Technologies • Computers, Interactive White Boards, Projectors & AV Equipment, Administrative & Curriculum Software.

  8. Technology Policies • Acceptable Use • Guidelines for faculty and staff • Guidelines for students • Supreme Court Ruling in effect as of December 1, 2006 • Archiving of all electronic communications • Backups may not be good enough • Need to start by reviewing our policies

  9. Scalability & Security • Scalability • Need to handle bursts of traffic • Use and implement proactive monitoring tools • Security • Multi-platform solutions • Network Access Control (NAC) devices

  10. Summer 2007 • Infrastructure work • Network Routing • Server Rebuilds • Client Devices - Possible Student Opportunities • Implementation of new SIS and Advanced Communication System • Web Development - Phase II • School level pages
