  1. Algebra Review

  2. Slope of a Line connecting 2 points Review: Slope = rise run Slope = y2 – y1 x2– x1

  3. Example: Determine the slope of the line that passes through the following two points: (3,7) and (1,-1)

  4. Example: Determine the slope of the line that passes through the following two points: (6,8) and (-2,-4)

  5. Remember… • The slope of a line that leans right is POSITIVE. • The slope of a line that leans left is NEGATIVE. • The slope of a horizontal line is ZERO. • The slope of a vertical line is UNDEFINED.

  6. The place where a line crosses over the y-axis is called the y-intercept You can determine the y-intercept by using y = mx + b.

  7. Example: Determine the y-intercept of the line that has a slope of 3 and passes through (6,0).

  8. Example: Determine the y-intercept of the line that has a slope of -2 and passes through (1,7).

  9. Graphing Lines Review: If the equation is in slope-intercept form (y=mx + b), then you are ready to graph. y = mx + b Slope – rise over run y-intercept – (0,b)

  10. Example: Graph the following equation: y = -3x + 5

  11. Example: Graph the following equation: y = 2x - 7

  12. Example: Graph the following equation: 3x – 4y = 12
