  1. CCU Competency 2013 Introduction and Overview

  2. 2013 Competency Modules Going forward there will be 2 competency modules to complete each year. The first module will focus on information that has not previously been covered in competency. Topics within this module for 2013 will include selected aspects of pulmonary, hemodynamics, and antiarrhythmic pharmacology. The second module will focus on what we are calling our “Core Clinical Business”. This module will focus on our key populations (HF, ACS, and Atrial Fibrillation) and CCU vital clinical skills such as self care education / risk factor counseling and cardiac monitoring / 12 lead ECG.

  3. Your Portfolio • The Clinical and Professional Portfolio is a central feature of competency. The contents of the portfolio are intended to showcase your practice throughout the year. • Bring your portfolio with you to your annual competency meeting. • Contents of the Portfolio include: • Your continuing education certificate for the last 2 years (2012 and 2013). • Certification (CCRN, CMC, etc.) and certificate (ACLS) verifications of achievement and renewals • Your completed 2013 self assessment of all the “Linking Knowledge to Practice” expectations for the Heart Center core curriculum • This assessment is a reassessment as you completed the same assessment last year. • Evidence of your progress towards the goals you established during 2012 competency • Any portfolio requirements from the 2013 modules • Optional: Any and all other items you would like to include to showcase your clinical and professional accomplishments. Example include: • Self reflective statements • Positive feedback from patients, peers, physicians, or others • Committee or shared decision making work • Involvement in professional organizations • School transcripts / projects • Community outreach

  4. New Clinical Goals • Please come to your competency meeting with two to three clinical goals for the upcoming year. • Your goals can be based on any insights you gain from the two competency modules or from any insights from your completion of the Linking Knowledge to Practice Expectations.

  5. Additional Competency Requirements • Therapeutic Hypothermia Core Team • Attendance year to date of Quarterly Hypothermia meetings • Completion of 2013 hemodynamic requirements • Self reflection statements • Team Leaders • Attendance year to date of CCU shared decision making meetings • Chest Pain Center • CE certificate from 2012 or 2013 pertaining to 12 lead ECG, cardiac monitoring, or ACS.

  6. Pulling it All Together • To guide you through the entire competency process, a packet has been compiled that pulls together follow up on 2012 goals, 2013 competency requirements from the modules, portfolio requirements, and clinical goals for the upcoming year. • You will receive a hard copy of this packet in your mailbox.
