  9. What is #Twitter? • Twitter is a “micro-blogging” social media site. Messages are limited to 140 characters (including spaces and punctuation). • Twitter says about itself: “[I am] a real-time information network that connects you to the latest stories, ideas, opinions and news about what you find interesting.” • I say that Twitter is a great tool for small business owners to build relationships, sell and inform.

  10. #Brand buzz • About 1 in 5 tweets is an inquiry about specific products or services • Two-thirds of Twitter users are 25 to 34 year-olds. • Cha-ching! • 26% of users have complained about a brand • 58% of users have praised a brand Credit: http://www.zendesk.com/blog/twitter-for-business

  11. #Smallbiz goals • Branding: Claim ownership of your brand name. Identify and engage brand advocates. A brand advocate is a person who talks favorably about a brand or product. Usually a customer. Never an employee.

  12. What’s your business goal? • Customer Service: Respond to questions or complaints in real time. Win brand advocates when you show what a great problem-solver you are.

  13. What’s your business goal? • Public Relations: Follow journalists or bloggers in your area or industry. Share resources and articles to get their attention.

  14. What’s your business goal? • Sales: Offer specials and coupons. Promote new products or services. Promote new website or blog content.

  15. What’s your business goal? • Marketing: Become a resource! Share tips, links or other helpful content. Gather testimonials.

  16. What’s your business goal? • Research: Monitor what your customers or competitors are doing. Poll others about new ideas, products or services. Search for buzz on keywords relevant to your business.

  17. What’s your business goal? • Networking: Follow industry peers. Make connections who can answer your questions, or that you can be of help to. First rule of social media: help yourself by helping others.
