How does Mark describe Jesus’ emotional state? **Why is Jesus afraid if he knows he is going to resurrect? The Garden of Gethsemane. Read the story. Tick the sentences that are true. Change the false ones to make them true. Jesus predicts all the disciples will fall away from him Only Peter will stay faithful They went to a place called Gethsemane Jesus tells ALL his disciples to watch and wait Jesus prays so hard, that drops of sweat & blood fell from his face Jesus prays the the cup of suffering be taken away from him 3 times, Jesus comes back & finds the disciples sleeping The third time Jesus returns, he said it is over & his betrayer is on his way. Judas appears with men with swords and clubs, sent from the Romans Judas hugs Jesus as a sign to the soldiers No-one puts up a fight. One of the soldiers’ nose is cut off. Jesus tells his disciples to put away their swords A young man wearing a white linen garment follows Jesus as he is led away, but the soldiers try to grab him and he runs away naked

Why do they behave like that? • How do they react when the soldiers arrive? • How did the disciples behave towards Jesus? • Why were they so unprepared? Analyse one of the characters: the disciples or Jesus – answer the questions about them, using the book p 56-57 to help you.
