Background Information • Japan annexed Korea in 1910 and ruled until 1945 • At the end of world war II the Japanese surrendered to both the soviets and the U.S. • This caused two nations to develop one communist (North Korea) and the other democratic (South Korea). • The soviets thought that the U.S. would not back up South Korea, so they decided to attack
Background Information • June 25th, 1950 North Korea crossed over in a surprise attack on South Korea • South Korea called on the U.N. for help • On June 27th the U.N. arrived to help south Korea • 5 million people died • The soviets couldn’t veto the U.N.’s military plan
