  3. Why do we need a Constitution? The reason we need our constitution is to maintain the integrity of what our founding fathers intended this Association to be. Without our constitution our Association would be in great chaos

  6. What is Protocol? pro-to-col  (n) • The forms of ceremony and etiquette observed by diplomats and heads of state • A code of correct conduct “It’s nice to be important but more important to be nice”

  7. Why Observe Protocol? Protocol helps guide us through a variety of situations Observing protocol and etiquette shows respect and conveys a sense of order Protocol is not snobbish or “Putting on the Ritz”

  8. Meeting Protocol When a Lions Dignitary attends a club / zone / district meeting: • Introduction • Agenda – the most senior visiting Lion always speaks last. (The only point after the Address is Tailtwisting) • Seating – the most senior visiting Lion sits on the Club President / ZC / DG’s right. • Send a copy of Agenda to visitors beforehand • Timekeeping

Club Meeting Agenda Example • Call to Order • Welcome & Introduction of Guests • Lions Pledge / Creed / Ethics • Attendance, apologies, confirmation of quorum • Confirmation of previous minutes & matters arising • President, Secretary & Treasurer Reports • Portfolio Reports : Service & Fundraising Activities • Any Other Business • District Chairperson’s Address • Zone Chairperson’s Address • District Governor’s Address • Tail Twisting • Closure

  11. After the Meeting • Entertain, don’t abandon • Avoid monopolizing • Refreshments • Remember the DG / Guests travel vast distances and spend much time on the road. Feed them after your meeting.

Dress Code • Appropriate dress for respective functions • Meetings - whatever works for your Club • Formal (black tie) Dinners – when specified • Semi Formal (Collar and Tie) Functions – men no longer wear suits and jackets as business wear • Smart Casual (Golf Shirt) Functions • Take into account the needs of the younger set • Comfort – we do live in Africa!
