Integrating global environment issues…. Millennium Development Goals – key focus of Medium Term Policy Framework Global environmental issues covered in sectoral plans Link between natural resources management and economic well-being acknowledged by decision-makers Climate change adaptation and hazard management among priorities
Challenges • Linking the sectoral plans (e.g biodiversity, desertification, climate change, etc.) • Ensuring coherence between the various plans • Moving from plan to implementation • Establishing priorities among the various action plans and programmes • Global issues vs. local issues • Resource Mobilization
What next? • For Jamaica - an opportunity in developing a long term development plan to incorporate environmental issues and include action plans such as the NBSAP • At the regional level – regional coordinating mechanism, CARICOM etc. an opportunity to address common environmental and economic issues • Through GEF consultations, an opportunity to relate to other regions (constituencies) on global issues • At the national level – priority setting and review mechanisms provide an opportunity for coherence and commitment to projects
