  1. Fusion Power Associates Annual Meeting and Symposium December 16-17, 2014 PRESENTATION OF AWARDS Stephen O. Dean, President Fusion Power Associates

  2. DISTINGUISHED CAREER AWARDS Fusion Power Associates Distinguished Career Awards were established in 1987 to recognize individuals who have made distinguished lifelong career contributions to fusion development The 2014 Awards are presented to Ronald C. Davidson and Rush D. Holt

  3. DISTINGUISHED CAREER AWARD In selecting Dr. Davidson, the FPA Board of Directors recognizes his many years of dedication to advancing the prospects for fusion power. The Board especially notes his decades of outstanding career contributions as a scientist, educator, manager and advisor in the areas of both magnetic and inertial fusion.

  4. DISTINGUISHED CAREER AWARD In selecting Dr. Holt, the FPA Board of Directors recognizes his decade-long dedication to advancing the prospects for fusion power earlier in his career, followed by his dedication to public service for more than a decade as a member of Congress. The Board especially notes his efforts to improve the Nation’s educational opportunities for young people, to improve our environment, and to provide support for scientific research.

  5. 2014 LEADERSHIP AWARDS • Fusion Power Associates Leadership Awards were established in 1980 to recognize individuals who have provided outstanding leadership in accelerating the development of fusion power. • The 2014 Leadership Awards are presented to John Edwards and Martin Greenwald

  6. In selecting Dr. Edwards, the FPA Board of Directors recognizes the outstanding leadership he has provided to the field of inertial confinement fusion and its applications to high energy density physics and fusion energy. The Board especially recognizes his leadership of the scientific program on the National Ignition Facility (NIF) for both high energy density physics and the eventual achievement of ignition leading towards a commercial fusion power source.

  7. In selecting Dr. Greenwald, the FPA Board of Directors recognizes the many scientific contributions and managerial leadership he has provided to national and international research efforts on plasma and fusion science. The Board especially recognizes his role in the achievement of the Lawson n-tau on Alcator-C, his contributions to understanding the role of turbulent transport in determining tokamak density limits, and his recent leadership of the U.S. Fusion Energy Sciences Advisory Committee.

  8. 2014 EXCELLENCE IN FUSION ENGINEERING AWARDS Fusion Power Associates Excellence in Fusion Engineering Awards, in memory of MIT Professor David J. Rose, were established in 1987 to recognize persons in the relatively early part of their careers who have shown both technical accomplishment and potential to become exceptionally influential fusion leaders. The 2014 Excellence in Fusion Engineering Awards are presented to Dennis Sinars and Anne E. White

  9. In selecting Dr. Sinars, the Fusion Power Associates Board of Directors recognizes the leadership he has been providing to high energy density physics experiments on the Z facility at Sandia and his many scientific contributions to understanding wire array- and magnetically-driven implosions for inertial confinement and fusion energy applications.

  10. In selecting Prof. White, the Fusion Power Associates Board of Directors recognizes the leadership she has been providing to the world effort to understand turbulent transport in tokamaks, a critcal requirement for tokamak-based fusion power plants, and her devotion to training the next generation of fusion scientists and engineers at MIT.
