  1. CONTROLS SYSTEMS And the new freaking FIRST controls system. Images blatantly stolen from Chiefdelphi and other web sites

  2. Basics of controls • *goes to open PDF file of the controls layout and explains basics of controls* Images blatantly stolen from Chiefdelphi and other web sites

  3. What controls came in the kit? • 4 Jaguars • 1 Victor Speed controller • 1 cRio FIRST robot controller • 1 Fuse block • 2 ‘side cars’ • 1 Robot Camera • PWM Cables • More Cables • Tons of other stuff that I forgot the name of Images blatantly stolen from Chiefdelphi and other web sites

  4. The National Instruments cRio Robot Controller • The new robot controller that replaces the old IFI robot controller. • Customizable with removable thingamabobs depending on what you are going to use on the robot (like pneumatics). • Like the Jaguar, it is absolutely humongous, and it weighs a lot. • The Pins for digital input and PWM inputs are on a separate piece of crap (IMO) called the “side car.” This side car is connected with an unnecessarily humongous cable that also weighs a ton. 5. THE NEW JAGUAR Speed ControllerFrom Luminary Micro • It is Big • It is Huge • It runs on a higher frequency than Victor 884s • Higher frequency lets motors run smoother. • Has phone-esque ports that have no use for this Competition year. • Seems to break down Easier (I haven’t had any Problems yet). • It is absolutely humongous. 6. Power Distribution Panel (AKA the fuse block) • Also pretty big compared to last years PDP. • Larger fuse blocks are separated from the smaller fuse blocks, with a complimentary wire blocks which the wires go in. • Ground wires also Conveniently go next to where The main power wire goes, no Separate panel needed. • Need only a “Wago tool” (basically a flathead screw driver) to get the wires in. Stick the tool in the slot Above the wire slot and With some finesse, lift the Wire gauge up on the inside and insert the wire. Images blatantly stolen from Chiefdelphi and other web sites

  7. Well • I guess you can figure out my personal opinion on this new system eh? • Well I do admit, it was growing on me…until we got to the…. Images blatantly stolen from Chiefdelphi and other web sites

  8. SIDE CAR • THIS SIDE CAR • LOOK AT THAT HUGE CABLE GOIN IN THIS SIDE CAR • AND IT STILL NEEDS SEPARATE CABLES TO POWER IT • OH AND THAT’S NOT ALL IT CAN DO IT HAS THIS TAB ON THE DIGITAL PINS THAT LOCK THE CABLES IN PLACE • GOOD THING RIGHT? WRONG! THIS TAB CAUSES PEOPLE TO MISS THE PINS THAT THEY ARE STICKING THE CABLE IN • AND YOU HAVE TO PULL THIS TAB BACK IN ORDER TO GET THE CABLE OUT WHICH IS HARD AS HECK TO DO WHEN YOU ARE TRYING TO SQUEEZE INTO A SMALL SPACE ON THE ROBOT AND ARGH ARGH ARGH ARGH ARGH • AND THE PINS ARE WAAAY TOO CLOSE TO EACH OTHER, WHICH CAUSES PROBLEMS FITTING A WHOLE BUNCH OF CABLES IN IT…..PINS ARE EASY TO BEND OUT OF PLACE…. 9. END • Thank you for watching my dumb slide show on controls. I congratulate any of you who managed to get anything from this. Images blatantly stolen from Chiefdelphi and other web sites
