  2. What is a Sacrament? A Sacrament is an outward sign established by Jesus to give inward grace. This grace is given through the Holy Spirit. There are seven Sacraments.

  11. Anointing of the Sick • Anointing: the hands and forehead of the sick person are anointed with olive oil. • Laying on of hands: the priest lays his hands over the head of the sick person and prays for them.

It brings spiritual/physical strength and peace, and courage to suffer the illness. 3. For the forgiveness of sins. 4. It is prayer for restoring good health. 5. It is preparation for passing to eternal life.

  14. Anointing of the Sick • When a person is dying, or in danger of dying, the priest administers the Last Rites (also called Viaticum): • Sacrament of Reconciliation • Sacrament of the Eucharist • Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick

  19. Penance makes things right. • This might be to say a prayer OR • It might be to make amends. For example if you disobeyed your mum or day, you might be asked to do something for them without being asked.

Steps of Reconciliation 1 Examination of conscience (before going to Reconciliation) 2 Greeting 3 Sign of the Cross 4 Scripture: Father may read from the Scriptures. 5 Confession: Confess our sins. 6 Penance: Priest will counsel us, then give us penance. 7 Act of Contrition: Express sorrow. 8 Absolution: Father forgives us in the name of God. 9 Thank Father and go and ‘do’ your penance.

Examination of Conscience - 1 • Do we take time out to pray and worship God? • Do we show respect for our parents and teachers by doing what we are asked to do and speaking respectfully? • Do we speak about God and our church with respect and reverence? • Do we respect others by treating them kindly? • Do we speak and act honestly? • Do we choose to be peacemakers rather than troublemakers? • Do we share and respect our belongings and other people’s things? • Do we give some of our money and time to the poor, the sick and the hungry?
