Important Information • Deadline for submitting applications for 2012-2013: January 16th, 2012 at the respective faculties and January 30th, 2012 at Student Exchange and Study Abroad Office • Please see information on requirements http://www.mcgill.ca/students/international/studyabroad/mcgill/first/ and for the application process at: http://www.mcgill.ca/students/international/studyabroad/mcgill/apply/ • Minimum of 8 credits for each term at the host university • a proposed list of courses to be taken at the host institution has to be prepared and approved by faculty advisor as part of the application process

DAAD Undergraduate Scholarships Scholarships funding study, senior research or internships in Germany • scholarships are available for exchange programs or independent study abroad for one semester or year • open to 2nd and 3rd year students who will return to their university in North America afterwards • 4-10 months duration • 650 Euros per month, plus travel and research subsidies, health care • Deadline: January 31, 2012 • German language competency not necessarily required • for more information see: http://daad.org/page/undergrad/index.v3page;jsessionid=79rqcrarln24i

  6. Canadian Summer School in Kassel 6 ½ weeks summer university language and cultural studies program (85 contact hours) • May 2nd-June 16, 2012 • CSSG Language Agreement, host family program • Deadline: January 31, 2012 • Credits transfer to McGill • Study Away process: Maximum of 12 credits

DAAD Summer Course Grants Scholarships for 3-4 weeks summer language and cultural studies courses at German universities • deadline for grants: December 15, 2011 • full-time students at a Canadian or U.S. institution or foreign nationals enrolled at a U.S. or Canadian university for at least 2 years can apply • 2 years of university level German or equivalent at the time of application • 850 Euros plus travel subsidy of $300-450

  11. Internships and Jobs in Germany

Werkstudentenprogramm 2-3 months internships or jobs in Germany with various employers • around 35 places available, but an internship or job is not guaranteed (depends on the needs of employers) or you can find your own internship or job • two years of university level German or equivalent required

  13. Werkstudentenprogramm • open to Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada • 3 day Orientation session after arrival in May • costs: around $250 • DAAD travel subsidy of $650 • Deadline: November 15th-December 1, 2011 More information at: • http://www.cautg.org/wsp

ZAV: Internship Placement in Germany for Non-Canadian students for students who cannot participate in the Werkstudentenprogramm because of their nationality: • registration as a student for the duration of the internship required; at least 2nd year of studies • good German knowledge (2 years of university level German recommended) • agreement with the Federal Employment Services for work authorization necessary (except for France, Great Britain, Sweden, Spain etc. – see handout)

PAD – PädagogischerAustauschdienst Deutschland Language Assistant Positions for English or French at German secondary schools • during the academic year September-May • 12 hours of weekly teaching as an assistant • German should be your major or minor • good knowledge of German required • stipend of 800 Euros per month ($1100)

PAD Applications through the Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport: • open to Canadian citizens, who are full- or part-time students at a university in Québec • for French: French has to be mother tongue and one had to have attended the French school system • good knowledge of German • interview at the Ministère after being pre-selected for the program • admittance to the program allows for deferring student loans for a period of six months or longer

CDS – Cultural Vistas EMGIP-German State Parliament Program: internships at German State parliaments • open to U.S. or Canadian citizens enrolled at a U.S. or Canadian university or U.S. graduating seniors • 1-3 months three times a year • $500 per month (not guaranteed for Canadian citizens) • high-intermediate German skills

DAAD Undergraduate Scholarships Scholarship funding study, senior thesis research or internships in Germany • scholarships can be part of an organized study abroad program or part of an individual, self-organized study abroad semester or year • open to 2nd or 3rd year students who are enrolled full-time • support for 4-10 months with well-defined study, research or internship plans • German language competence not necessary

DAAD Study Scholarship Scholarship for independent study or a full M.A. degree at a German university • open to graduating students and recent graduates in all academic fields • enrolled full-time at the time of application • open to U.S. and Canadian citizens or permanent residents or foreign nationals enrolled at a U.S. or Canadian university for at least 2 years • well-defined research or study proposal plan as part of application

DAAD Study Scholarship • invitation from an academic partner or research institution strongly recommended • applicants in the arts, humanities and social sciences should have a good knowledge of German • Scholarship will be awarded between October-July • $750 per month plus subsidy for travel costs (850-1300 Euros) and health care, limited funds available for rent subsidy and family allowance • Deadline: November 15th, 2011

  34. DAAD Study Scholarship for Fine Arts, Music, Dance and Architecture Scholarship for a program of additional studies at a German institute of higher learning • same conditions as for the study scholarship apply • Deadline: November 1

EMGIP Bundestag Internship Internship opportunities in the German parliament • 2 months between September and December • open to U.S or Canadian citizens and permanent residents or foreign students in the fields of political science, international relations, law, history, economics or German • open to students enrolled at a U.S. or Canadian university for at least two years • fluent in spoken German • Deadline: September 15th
