  2. February 12, 1909 W.E.B. Du Bois, Mary White Ovington, Ida B. Wells, Henry Moskowitz William English Walling When was the organization created?

  3. Why was it created? A horrible lie spread around the town of Springfield A riot broke out, white’s went on a rampage killing or harming blacks/Jews. They set fire to houses/ businesses. Reporter Walling wrote about the Springfield Race Riot, and the condition of blacks in the country and asked "who realizes the seriousness of the situation, and whose ready to come to their aid?"Mary Ovington read the article and got a group together, which then lead to the formation of the NAACP in hopes to finally stop the discrimination the blacks were unjustly receiving.

  4. Two of the group’s current goals and/or missions: • NAACP URGES SENATE TO PASS BILL CREATING A BLUE-RIBBON COMMISSION • NEW LAW WOULD CREATE A BI-PARTISAN COMMISSION TO EVALUATE EVERY STAGE OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROCESS AND THE DISPARATE REPRESENTATION AND TREATMENT OF RACIAL AND ETHNIC MINORITIES IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM • NAACP CALLS FOR U.S. SENATE TO SWIFTLY PASS EXTENSION OF FEDERAL UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS • Millions of American Workers have already lost Unemployment Benefits

  5. Two issues the group is currently tackling: Health Programs- Education- The NAACP is committed to eliminating racial/ ethnic disparities in our health care system. In addition they’re engaged in the workforce development movement to increase the #of minorities represented in the medical/ public health profession, and to provide counsel on cultural competency in the health care system. The NAACP National Education Program strives to ensure that all students have access to an equal and high-quality public education by eliminating education-related racial and ethnic disparities in our public schools
