  2. MOOTING In a moot, two pairs of 'advocates' argue a fictitious legal appeal case in front of a 'judge’. To win, you do not necessarily have to win the legal case, but must make the best presentation of your legal arguments.

  3. Why Moot Mooting is useful for developing legal skills of analysis and interpretation, but also personal skills of argument and public speaking. Most importantly of all, it is great fun. There is nothing quite like the feeling of driving home a crucial point, or defeating your opponents' arguments with irrefutable authority. To get the most out of mooting, a lot of work is required, but as many experienced mooters will tell you, it is well worth it!

  5. Participate There are three ways you can participate within the mooting society. As a student representative As a member of the audience As a mooter

  6. To Moot You will need to find a partner who you know will be reliable You will need to find a standby who is involved throughout your preparation and is familiar with your arguments You will need to attend the Mooting workshops

Benefits • You will enhance your employability • You will become more familiar with legal materials and practice terms, such as “bundles”; “skeleton arguments” • You will learn the formalities surrounding court appearances • You will be invited to many events as a member such as the talk by Baroness of Scotland

  8. Mooting Competitions External UEL offers mooters the opportunity to participate in the Essex Court Chambers National Mooting competition which is held between 36 participating Law Schools. Internal UEL runs an internal competition between the years. So there is a level 1 moot for first year students, a level 2 moot for second year students and a level 3 moot for third year students.
