Coupling Analysis • Big Holes in Knowledge: • Role of final electron acceptor • The site of oxygen consumption • Function of ETC is distinct from ATP synthase, although one uses the product of the other • Need to understand this distinction to answer all “uncoupler” questions • ATP is made by F1F0ATPase (aka ATP synthase) and oxygen is used by the ETC not ATP synthase • Ambiguities: • Be careful when you use “continues”. Continues relative to what? • Be careful when you use “stops”. Does it cease completely? • Negating the stem within the answer(s). It is confusing, especially in a stressful situation.
