  2. EU & DK indicators • EU: Income, people living with less than 60% of the national median income. The at-risk-of-poverty rate. It is a relative measure of poverty, linked to income distribution, which takes account of all sources of monetary income. 120 million people are at risk of poverty or excluded. • EU: Material deprivation, at least 4 out of 9 following situations: people cannot afford 1) to pay their rent or utility bills, 2) keep their home adequately warm, 3) face unexpected expenses, 4) eat meat, fish, or a protein equivalent every second day, 5) a week of holiday away from home once a year, 6) a car, 7) a washing machine, 8) a colour tv, or 9) a telephone. Concerns 8.3% of the EU population varying from 1% to 33%. • EU + DK: People living in jobless households, zero or very low work-intensity over a whole year. Long-term exclusion from the labour market is a main factor of poverty, and aggravates the risk of transmission of disadvantage from one generation to the next.

  3. DK – indicators for poverty. Main causes to poverty • State: People living in long term jobless households and their children. • Economists: prefer OECD’s 50 % limit. • New governmental expert group, aim: propose different limits and measurement methods to follow poverty development, especially among children and long-time poor.
