  1. 5/6/2013 Standards: 10 (Organic Chem) Objectives: ●  Memorize Alkanes with 1-10 carbons. ●  Students will be able to recognize types of organic formulas. DO NOW: 1. Pick up your papers on side and back counters. 2. Write the name, molecular formula, and condensed structural formula for alkanes with 1-10 carbons. We will have a quick responder quiz right after doing this as guided practice. (Chart p. 700) HOMEWORK: 1. Memorize the names of the alkanes with 1 - 10 carbons (Organic Chem Ch 22.1, p. 700) for short quiz tomorrow. (Chart p. 700) ===========================================================

  2. What would we have to do without if there were no organic compounds?

  3. Molecular Condensed Structural Ways to show organic molecules Structural Formula

  4. Ball & Stick

  5. Skeletal formula

  6. RESPONDERS 5/7/2013 Standards: 10 (Organic Chemistry) Objectives: ●  Check for understanding: names of Alkanes with 1-10 carbons. ●  Students will be able to recognize substituents and use them in naming branched alkanes. DO NOW: 1. Define substituent groups. 2. Copy the entire chart from page 702. CLASSWORK: 1. Ch 22.1 p. 705 1 (a,b,c), 2 (a,b) =========================================================== ●  Journal 5/6/13 - What you learned about Organic Chemistry yesterday. to remember 1st 4 alkanes To the Tune of Xhada, xhada, Xhada, xhada, xing, xing, xing MEP-Buh, MEP-Buh, MEPa, MEPa, MEP, Buh, Buh, MEP-Buh, MEP-Buh, MEPa, MEPa, MEP, Buh, Buh, MEPBuh - MEPBuh, MEP, Buh-Buh, MEPa - MEPa, MEPa - MEPa, MEP-Buh-Buh, MEP-Buh, MEP-Buh, MEPa, MEPa, MEP, Buh, Buh,

  7. Write the structural formula for propane and methane

  8. 5/8/2013 Standards: 10 (Organic Chemistry) Objectives: ● Students will be able to name any alkane with methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, and/or isopropyl substituents.  DO NOW: 1. Copy down and name the "Hairy Monster" following directions on page. CLASSWORK: 1. Ch 22.1 p. 705 3. (a,b), 4. do condensed structural and skeleton (a,b) Extra Credit - (in class only) Ch 22 Assess - p. 732 61 (a,b,c,d) (2 pts max only if 3 & 4 are completed) Extra Credit - for Homework (2 pts max if properly named) Draw your own organic molecule - must start with 10 carbons (decane) drawn as a skeleton structure. Include a minimum of 5 substituents - one each of methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, and butyl groups. No chain can be larger than 10 carbons. Name your molecule. =========================================================== STAMPING: ●  Journal 5/7/13 - What you learned about Organic Chemistry yesterday. 1. 15. SILENCE Buybacks - Wigger CST If you want credit this your work, follow these directions: 1. Pick up your scantron from the side counter, & LEAVE A NEAT STACK! 2. Get you test (# will be on scantron) from front of room. 3. Use one or more 8.5"x11" pieces of paper for your answers 4. Copy problem from test and only the correct answer, with your name, date, and period in the top right corner of the paper: Calc Problems: Given, Find & calculation Non-Calc Probs: Copy problem word for word, give page# from book and coherent explanation of why that page# explains the answer. 4. When done: (a) staple your scantron to the back of your paper. (b) Return your test and make sure it is in CORRECT numeric ORDER and neatly stacked. SILENCE SILENCE SILENCE SILENCE
