Welcome to 6th Grade Social Studies! In this class, we will think like historians as we investigate historical documents, form opinions, and support them with evidence. You'll create a personal representation to express your interests. Our classroom procedures ensure a conducive learning environment—come prepared and engage with your peers! Stay updated on assignments through my website. Remember, tutoring is available for additional help. Let’s make this year fun and educational!
E N D
Homeroom: Create your little representation • On the little person leave the head blank, except for your name, because your picture will go there. • On the rest of the body draw or write things that interest you or represent you. See Mrs. Jackson’s for an example. • Have fun!
What happens in this class?? • We learn to think like ‘historians’! • We investigate and study historical documents! • We form opinions and support them with historical evidence! • We follow classroom procedures so that we can learn and have fun at the same time!
Classroom Procedures • Come into class and sit in your assigned seat. • Look on the board or smart board for your WARM UP task…and complete it immediately (usually in your notebook). • Copy homework, due dates, etc. into your agenda. • Sit quietly and/or read if you finish the warm up early. • Always bring a book to read to class.
General Classroom Procedures • Notes: You WILL take notes in this class. We do not have a ‘text book’ so it’s important to take all notes and keep up with them. • Notes can be taken in a spiral notebook during NBI OR on notebook paper in class with the date added each timebut must be kept in a notebook. • Graded papers need to be put into your notebook . This will help with summative assessments, Benchmarks and the CRCT. • Papers are normally turned into to me directly. DO NOT PLACE THEM ON MY DESK! Make sure that your NAME & CLASS PERIOD are written on the paper.
My Teacher Website • www.teacherweb.com and search for East Paulding Middle School and then select my name. • Check the website for homework, handouts, power points, SYLLABUS and other important Social Studies information. • You can sign up to have it send you emails or text messages when it’s updated by me (RSS feed).
RAIDER RETAKES: • You may only ask to RETAKE A SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT. • All class work must be completed before a retake will be given.
Raider Retake Procedures • YOU ask for a retake within 5 days of getting a graded SUMMATIVE assessment. • All class work must be completed before you retake the test. • SCHEDULE the RETAKE…most likely during NBI NBI/HOMEROOM • THIS IS A SCHOOL WIDE SYSTEM • Unless there are unusual circumstances, like an extended illness or family emergency, there will be NO exceptions.
Summer Reading Assignment • Advanced Classes must have their book read and the summer reading ‘project’ completed by Friday, August 31st. • You can turn it in any time before the due date.
