Alabama Freight Mobility Study • Purpose: To better utilize the nation’s total transportation system • Alleviate congestionfor Alabama’s highways, cities, and railroads • Provide a safe, affordable, and fuel efficient transportation alternative • Reduce air and noise pollution • Objectives: • Provide shippers with a business model to transport commodities in the most cost-effective way possible • Put more traffic onto the waterways • Inland waterways are the Nation’s only transportation system with unused capacity to handle increases in U.S. trade and transportation needs – as long as the system is maintained Alabama Freight Mobility Study CAWA US DOT W.R.
