  2. Summary of the Book • I read the book The Crossing. This book is about a 14 year old boy named Manny. Manny is homeless because his mother abandoned him. He is living in a cardboard box in an alley and he will do anything to survive. He is trying to get out of Mexico by crossing the border to the United States and start a new life. This book is mainly about Manny trying to get across the border and the distractions along the way.

Galapagos Islands • The Galapagos Islands have a population of about 30,000 people. • The Galapagos Islands are made up of about 13 large islands and many smaller ones. • The Galapagos Islands are located on the equator about 600 miles west of the mainland Ecuadorian coast. • The Galapagos penguin is the only tropical penguin in the world.

  4. Angel Falls • Angel Falls is in Venezuela. It is the highest waterfall in the world at a height of almost 3,000 feet. • Angel Falls is about 20 times larger than Niagara Falls. • People walking within a radius of about 1 mile may get sprayed with mist at certain times of the year. • It was named after Jimmy Angel, who discovered it.

Lake Titicaca • Lake Titicaca is located on the border of Peru and Bolivia. • This lake is 118 miles long and 50 miles wide. • The deepest point in this lake is about 922 feet and it can hold more water than any other lake in South America. • 27 rivers flow into the lake. • It is located at 12,725 feet above sea level, which makes it the highest navigated lake in the world.

Easter Island • Easter Island gets its name from its discovery on Easter Sunday in 1722. • Easter Island is located in the middle of the South Pacific between Chile and Tahiti. • There are about 800 statues on Easter Island. • The average statue is 14 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 14 tons. Depending upon the size of the statues, it is estimated that 50-150 men were needed to drag them across the countryside.

  7. Machu Picchu • Machu Picchu is located at an altitude of about 7,875 feet above sea level. • It is often referred to as "The Lost City of the Incas." • It can take days to hike to Machu Picchu if you go by foot. • Machu Picchu is one of the New Seven Wonders Of The World. • Machu Picchu is comprised of around 140 structures.
