  2. Unit Plan Summary The students of Grade three are participating in a project t raise awareness of dental hygiene among the students of their school. They set up a club which calls itself the YCB’s or the Young Cavity Busters. Their mission is to investigate, analyze, plan implement and then investigate. The project features • Beautiful Smile – A poster competition • Survey • Multimedia Presentation • Visit by a dental surgeon

  4. Unit Questions How will the dental hygiene program help in promoting awareness among children ? Content Questions • What can the YCB’s do ? • Why is it important to visit the dentist after every six months? • Why are cavities bad for us ?

Benefits of using Project Approaches , Ongoing Assessment in my unit • Project Based Learning allows students to reflect upon their own ideas and opinions, exercise voice and choice, and make decisions that affect project outcomes and the learning process in general. • Performance is assessed on an individual basis, and takes into account the quality of the product produced, the depth of content understanding demonstrated, and the contributions made to the ongoing process of project realization.

  6. Learning Outcomes • Project Based Learning teaches students 21st century skills as well as content. These skills include communication and presentation skills, organization and time management skills, research and inquiry skills, self-assessment and reflection skills, and group participation and leadership skills.

Gauging Student Needs I will use my Essential and Unit questions to • Find out students know how of the topic. • Gather information on 21st century skills • initiate an awareness of the importance of dental hygiene. • Stress on the need for regular visits to the dentist. • Inculcate healthy eating habits among students.

  8. My Goals A Healthier Tomorrow. Encouring students to develop 21st century techniques Encouraging students to start thinking on issues and coming up with solutions to bring about improvements.
