Telecom Surplus Program • Emergency Support to the Ministry of Communications – Afghanistan • establish an operational structure for the MOC capable of dealing with the telecommunication governance issues • develop critical elements of a sector policy • prepare a draft telecommunications act • set up a regulatory structure and basic rules • prepare a national radio plan and radio regulations • establish a spectrum monitoring capability • set up a computerized spectrum management system • provide training for the above • USD 580,000 (ITU), USD 50,000 (UNDP)

Cooperation with Regional and International Organizations • Support for APT Workshop on ENUM and Internet Domain Names • in kind expertise (ITU) • Support for the Website of the UN Interagency Working Group on ICT • USD 10,000 (ITU) • Various joint seminars & activities at national, sub-regional and regional levels in Asia & the Pacific: e.g., ABU, ADB, APDIP, APEC, APT, APWIN, ESCAP, PITA, UNDP, UNESCO etc.

Proposed New Regional Project • National ICT Strategies in the ASP Region • establish new or strengthen existing national ICT strategy development structures • harmonize national ICT strategies with regional and global trends and priorities • develop competence in national ICT strategic planning • estimated budget – USD 1,460,000 • currently negotiating with several donors

  19. And more ….. A couple of more projects & studies planned in Asia & Pacific Region, which will be integrated into global activities & analyses: e.g., e-readiness studies in Maldives and other Pacific Islands.
