  1. Teacher Evaluation Updates Human Resources

  2. Teacher Evaluation Process – Immediate Concerns • Teachers will be using the McRel online teacher evaluation process during the 2011-2012 school year. (UID lists are forthcoming...) • All teachers should receive an orientation to the new teacher evaluation system each year at their school within two weeks of the opening day.  • The ABSS Teacher Evaluation website includes all of the orientation components required by the state. You can access it from the ABSS home page via the Staff Links tab. Under Staff Links, click on Resources and from there, click on Teacher Evaluation. • The orientation should include a discussion of the teacher evaluation rubric, the actual state board policy concerning the process, and a schedule of our observation “rounds” throughout the year.  The 2011-2012 Evaluation Schedule is also on the website. • All teachers will complete a self-assessment via the online system that will be used to help develop their Professional Development Plans.

  3. Teacher Evaluation Process – Immediate Concerns • All teachers will need to complete a Professional Development Plan (PDP).  It’s possible that a PDP was created for teachers that received a summative evaluation last year. They can use that one or create a new one. • Unless you have concerns about a teacher’s performance, they will check the box for individual plan.  • Teachers should pick 2-3 indicator rows within elements of the five professional teaching standards. If you do have concerns about a teacher’s performance, you can work together to develop a monitored plan. • If a teacher received ratings of developing or not demonstrated on their most recent summative, principals should develop a directed plan for them. • Feel free to contact Arasi or Mark for assistance with monitored or directed plans. • Mentors are now required to be involved in the PDP process with all beginning teachers as their electronic signature will be included on the initial, mid-year and final PDP conferences.

  4. Teacher Evaluation Process – Immediate Concerns • All teachers will track all aspects of the observation process through the electronic Record of Teacher Activities form.  Some data will have to be manually entered and then checked off when these things happen (orientation) and some will automatically populate (observations). Directions will be sent... • Don’t forget that before the first observation for all teachers, administrators should meet with the teacher to discuss the teacher’s self- assessment, the teacher’s most recent PDP, and the lesson(s) to be observed. Pre-Observation conferences are not required for subsequent observations. The Post-Observation conference needs to occur within 10 school days of the observation. • DPI has approved a new standard tied directly to student accountability to add to both the teacher and the administrator evaluation process. More information to come on this issue. • All teachers, regardless of tenure status must receive a summative evaluation this year. The document may be abbreviated for career teachers not up for licensure renewal. More information to come on this issue.
