  4. Key Findings: Most communities (at least 68.75% on each practice) have committed to business attraction best practices or plan to in the future. Potential Recommendations for CRP Actions: Knowledge sharing between communities to implement the best practices. Coordinated site selection processing, marketing plan and opportunity identification may be three areas that CRP could assist communities with in the near future. 4

  5. Key Findings: Business succession planning received a low response (18.75%), despite rising concerns over declining numbers of small businesses in rural areas. Business information is key to rural economic development (business directory) Potential Recommendations for CRP Actions: Opportunity exists for CF’s to raise profile in provision of business retention and expansion servies. Business directory important best practice in the region – important to maintain data and ensure transmission to AlbertaFirst 5

  6. Key Findings: Support for home based business policies is strong though few communities have implemented a policy (25%). Potential Recommendations for CRP Actions: Opportunity to raise the profile of CFDC’s – provision of entrepreneurial services provided throughout the CRP region. CRP can collect and disseminate best practices relating to home based business policy. 6

  7. Key Findings: Defining tourism infrastructure and marketing regional information is a key priority for CRP communities. Potential Recommendations for CRP Actions: Tourism opportunity identification may be the best first step to focus on as it will illuminate the requirements for all the other best practices listed. As the labour shortage continues, customer service training may be an area to focus community efforts, although it was rated as a low priority. Tourism information based on film attractions, map of region showcasing film sites may provide a new marketing venue worth consideration. 7

  8. Key Findings: Development/re-visiting MDP’s are a hig priority for CRP communities. Potential Recommendations for CRP Actions: Given limited resources for growth in the Calgary region, land (and water) banking may be a good idea to implement into future planning and municipal development plans. CRP EDF will provide this information and ongoing input into the regional growth and sustainability project. 8

  9. Key Findings: Half of communities either have to plan to implement best practices on varying housing options, more communities may need to explore this issue as well. Potential Recommendations for CRP Actions: CRP EDF will provide this information to the regional growth and sustainability project. 9

  10. Key Findings: On average, fewer communities have implemented Industrial and Commercial real estate development best practices relative to residential real estate. Potential Recommendations for CRP Actions: EDF will provide this information to the regional growth and sustainability project. 10

  11. Key Findings: Low implementation on all practices. Potential Recommendations for Future CRP Actions: Role here for CF’s in provision and/or promotion of workforce services. Is a regional labour force strategy a consideration for the EDF? 11
