  1. Preparing for theEnd of the Season HEAT andRain

  2. Remind students • Avoid Puddles • Avoid running through water if possible. • Watch out for cups and banana peels.

  3. What to wear to the starting line? Tell students to start looking for “throw away” clothes – Sweatshirts, raincoats, sweatpants etc. Wear to starting line, throw away once race starts Consider a flyer in the teacher’s mailboxes making requests for the above items

  4. Bring Garbage Bags(they convert to throw-away raincoats) Marathon Goodie Bag might have a throw-away rain coat. Make sure the students bring it!!!!

  5. Visor to keep rain off face.

  7. Tights are recommended for cold rain(Not Sweats during race)

  8. PARENTS and the Weather • Some will not allow students to run in the rain. Some will not allow their child to run in the heat. Consider a parent meeting before March 17. • Remind students and parents that the marathon is “Rain or Shine”

  11. The Turtles • Stay with them! • Assign a slower leader to them. • Let me know if you have someone you need me to watch forjoe@srla.org • Drama = Pulling the kid from the race especially at the last two events.

  12. If there is extreme heat... • What can you do as a leader?

  13. Bring sun block • All skin types • At least SPF of 15 or higher • Remind guys that if they take shirt off because they are hot they will get burned and it may hurt rather than help

  14. Tell kids to wear Sunglasses • Feels cooler and stops squinting • Protects the eyes • Cools the body

  15. Remind the students:Drink more water • Require them to bring a water bottle or provide them for before the race. • Marathon has good supply of water. • Drink every mile ++ (at least every 20 minutes) • No matter the weather students should try to drink every mile. • Remind students to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.

  16. Cap to keep sun off face.

  17. Run in the Shade when possible • Don’t wait until you are miserable to be sensible!

  18. Tell students:If they becomes dizzy or get the chills, they should stop, drink water or GatoradeGet help if it doesn’t stop
