Contact Information & Counselling • Provide access to information and support youth in making informed decisions about their employment, self employment and skills development and sustainable livelihoods, through the following programmes: • Youth Advisory Centres (YAC’s), including YAC points and mobile YAC’s to provide access in rural areas; • UYF’s call centre - YouthConnect • Website portal – www.youthportal.org.za • Jobs and Opportunities Seekers Database (JOBS) - from State of the Nation Address May 04 • South African Youth Card - SAY • SAY Magazine published quarterly in the Sunday Times

Highlights: CIC • Jobs and Opportunities Database: • Online CV preparation (passport for life) • Can receive by fax or post (100 CVs daily!) • Free Advert placement by employers (moderated) • SAQA has agreed to verify qualifications • Partnerships for YAC points • DOL Labour Centres – training of Infomediaries started • Municipalities – e.g. Sterkspruit & Potchefstroom • Multi Purpose Community Centres and Info. Resource Centres • FET Colleges & Higher Education Institutions • SA Youth Card growth – additional facilities • Company wide Customer Relationship Management tool (facilitates integration)

  6. Skills Development & Transfer • Facilitate access of unemployed youth to economic opportunities in the sectors of economy that have the potential to absorb labour or to create self-employment opportunities. • SD&T Programmes: • School to Work • National Youth Service

Highlights: SD&T • Working with the Further Education and Training Colleges • Training youth in Vocational Skills • FET Colleges implementing Learnerships • Integration of Education and Training • National Youth Service Programme • Unit operational (launched in August 2004) • 23 700 youth in service oriented organisations (10000 youth to be trained) • Partnerships with National and Provincial Departments of government • Dept. of Education (FET Colleges) • Dept. of Social Development (Assistant Probation Officers) • Dept of Public Service & Admin (Public Service Internship Programme) • Various Sector Education and Training Authorities • Limpopo & Free State Health Dept. (Community Home Based Care)

Business Development Support • Develop and enhance a culture of entrepreneurship and creation of sustainable youth owned enterprises, through two programmes – • Entrepreneurship Education (programmes that target in-school and out-of-school youth) and • Business Development Voucher Programme (BDVSP). a world-first electronic voucher programme of its kind, providing business support services to young entrepreneurs through UYF accredited services providers (e.g. Business Plans, Productivity Improvement, etc). • Two new programmes introduced to the Youth Development Sector, • Business Opportunities Services Support (“BOSS”) programme and • Youth Entrepreneurship 2010 Campaign.

Highlights: BDS • Development of Business Opportunities Support Service • Linking youth owned businesses with opportunities & networking amongst themselves • Entrepreneurship Campaign 2010 • Advocacy • Entrepreneurship Education & Skills Programmes • Access to finance, business support & procurement opportunities • Policy, legislation, regulations pro youth entrepreneurship • Objective: Increase Total Entrepreneurship Activity to be no. 1 by 2010 • Entrepreneurship Education programmes for in-school & out-of-school youth • Appointment by Dept. of Labour to set up the National Coordinating Agency for the New Venture Creation Learnership • Voucher programme now available in all provinces • Partnerships • Dept. of Labour • Mpumalanga Economic Empowerment Corporation

Enterprise Finance • Facilitate access to finance for young entrepreneurs in SMME market. • Executed directly to young, qualifying entrepreneurs through UYF’s self-managed General Fund, or through intermediary funds • SME Financing Private Public Partnerships with • Business Partners (Franchise Fund) • First National Bank (Progress Fund) • Micro-finance funds with The Nations Trust, NICRO Enterprise Finance, MARANG and Small Enterprise Foundation ; and • Co-operative funds with Marang Financial Services, SACCOL (Savings & Credit Co-ops), Land Bank and NCASA.

Highlights: Enterprise Finance • Leveraging of funds • Progress Fund now the basis of FNB Enterprise Solutions and increased commitment from R20m to R240m • Mpumalanga Investment Initiative (R10m) • Discussions in progress with other funders • Co-operatives initiatives • Training of Loan Application Support Officers (to improve access)

Other Key issues • Funding received to be fully committed by July 05 • Priorities • Increased access to UYF Services • DoL Labour Centres, MPCCs • Have vastly increased access (but will not fulfill all youth development need) • More communication and profiling of work • Increased integration and partnerships • Impacting on key national programmes and priorities (e.g. Education & Training, Expanded Public Works Programme) • Resource mobilisation
