Bio: • Earned her M.F.A. from New York University in Dramatic Writing • Began her writing career in children’s TV: • Clarissa Explains it All,The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo, • Little Bear, Oswald, Clifford’s Puppy Days, Generation O! • When she was young, she moved around with her Dad in the Air Force; • also lived in NYC for 16 years. • She currently lives in Connecticut with her husband, two children, and two feral kittens. • She is 47 years old.
Influences: • Talked into trying to write children’s books by author James Proimos • Her father was an officer in the Air Force, a military specialist, a historian, and a doctor of political science. He taught Collins the how and why and after effects war could have. Both The Underland Chronicles and the Hunger Games Trilogy examine various angles of war. • The Hunger Games was inspired by the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur, as well a moment channel surfing between reality TV and Iraq war coverage.
