  2. Question No.1 “I am temporarily visiting Canada for six months. While in Canada I wish to take a few courses. Is that possible without a study permit?”

  3. Answer: Short courses that don’t lead to completion of a program of study can often be taken without having a study permit. Typically, such short courses are less than six months in length.

  4. Answer: You may also consider taking distance-learning courses, such as online courses. However, if the online course has an in-Canada component to the course, you may have to obtain a study permit for that portion of the course.

  5. Question No.2 “I’ve been charged with an offence in Canada and am considering pleading guilty. I am a permanent resident. Am I safe making a guilty plea?”

  6. Answer: Even relatively short prison sentences can result in you being stripped of your permanent resident status and deported.

  7. Answer: I would recommend contacting an immigration lawyer about the specifics of your case. If you have a criminal defence lawyer, this information should be shared with that lawyer.
