P12036 NTID NOTIFICATION ALERT PHASE II Problem: There is a need in the deaf or hard of hearing community for a small and inexpensive device to serve as a mobile alarm clock or emergency notification device. Current at home devices such as Table Lamps, Programmable Blinds, and Bed Frame mounted Shakers are large and bulky, and are inconvenient for travel and mobility. Shaker Jack Removable Bluetooth Module Status LEDs MicroUSB Project Timeline Li-Polymer Battery Alert LEDs ON/OFF Switch • Main Objectives • Brighter Alarm LED’s • Cheaper Bluetooth Module & Device Cost • Battery Powered for Increased Mobility • Compatibility with Today’s Mobile Devices • Increased Aesthetic Appearance • Quality & Durability Background: This project was createdwhen the need was identified in the deaf or hard of hearing community for a small and inexpensive module to serve as a mobile alarm clock or emergency notification device. To fulfill this need, a small portable devicethat is able to activatea Bed Shaker and high intensity lights was designed. The alert system would be controlledthrough an application from a cell phone or similar Bluetooth enabled device. The Bluetooth chip and micro-controller were modular in design such that they could be used in a variety of different applications. This is the second phase of the Notification Alert project, with many improvements such as higher intensity LED's, mounted flush tothe exterior of the device that would allow for a brighter signal at a wider viewing angle, as well as an internal lithium-ion battery that would improve the mobility of the device, which will no longer draw power solely from a wall socket.
