Along with healthy lifestyle choices what you eat can have a big impact on your heart health too. Although you might know that eating certain foods can increase your heart disease risk, it is often tough to change your eating habits. Here are some diet tips to follow Control the Portion Size How much you eat is as important to what you eat. Do not overload your plate, take time to eat. Use a small plate or bowl to help control the portion size. Keep a track of a number of servings you eat. This will help you in controlling the amount of calories. Eat More Fruits and Vegetables Fruits and vegetables are a good source of vitamins and minerals and are also low in calories and rich in dietary fibre. Eating more servings of fruits and vegetables help you eat a lesser amount of high-fat foods such as meat, cheese and snacks. Eat Whole Grains Whole grains have a high amount of fibre which helps regulate blood pressure and heart health. Choose whole wheat flour, grain bread, high fibre cereals, brown rice, barley and buckwheat. Limit Unhealthy Fats Limiting how much saturated and Trans fats you eat is an important step to reduce the cholesterol and lower the risk of coronary artery disease. High blood cholesterol can lead to a build-up of plaque in the arteries which can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke. Making heart-healthy choices can considerably reduce the chances of having cardiovascular disease.
