  2. We spend a lot of time worrying about our child’s (children’s) physical health – are they consuming the correct foods? Are you staying active? Keeping themselves safe while playing? But how often do we tackle their mental health in the same proactive manner? Children can have all of the same mental health disorders as adults, but since they are still learning how to understand and express their thoughts and feelings, they often express them differently. 2

  3. How to identify the symptoms? It is critical that parents recognise the warning symptoms of mental illness in their children. Here are a few examples: The mood shifts. Look for feelings of sorrow or withdrawal that persist at least two weeks, as well as significant mood swings that cause issues in family or school connections. 3

  4. Concentration problems. Look for indicators of difficulty concentrating or sitting still. Feelings that are intense. Be wary of excessive worry for no apparent cause or severe anxieties that interfere with regular tasks. Injury To The Body. A mental health problem can sometimes lead to self-harm, which is the intentional damage of one’s own body, such as cutting or burning oneself. 4

  5. Methods to Protect Your Child’s Mental Health Love your child completely. Encourage your children to express their emotions and validate their sentiments. First, listen, then speak. Make time for pleasure and enjoyable hobbies. Discipline with dignity and teaching, not with shame Inquire about your child’s day and instill excellent sleep habits in them. Encourage the consumption of nutritious foods. When feasible, model positive self-care and allow children to be autonomous. When communicating knowledge with your children, be truthful (at an age- appropriate level). Assist youngsters in problem-solving situations. Make time every day to chat to your children. 5

  6. Conclusion If you are concerned about your child’s mental health, talk with top psychologist in Kolkata and discuss the problem behaviour. Consider asking your child’s teacher, close friends, or other carers whether they’ve observed any changes in his or her behaviour. 6
