  1. Become a Part of the Indian Communities in Sydney Landing on foreign shores for the first time is often a tough task and while making a better life might be high on the list, most people do not look forward to going so far away from home. It was perhaps the longing to stay in touch with home that several Indian communities in Sydney and several other Australian cities started to appear. Initially, the idea behind these communities was that people from all parts of India could stay in touch and find some semblance of being ‘home’. Eventually these communities became the home ground for all festivals and other important celebrations. As a matter of fact, these days, you could easily find an Indian association in Perth or even Sydney and Melbourne, which will have a large gathering for a cricket match, where India is playing! For many first generation Indians in Australia, these associations have become a great place to introduce their children to what the Indian culture truly is. Given that many of these children are born in Australian cities and rarely get a chance to visit their motherland, these associations play an important role in ensuring a touch with their actual roots. Several people also use these associations for a give and take of Indian news in Melbourne or whichever city they are in. when some very specific piece of news arrives from a certain part of India, it is easier to spread the same through such channels, as opposed to getting it published in a physical newspaper.
