Estates General First And Second Estates Always voted Together • May 5, 1789: Second Estate forces a meeting of the Estates General to approve new tax. • According to medieval rules, each estate gets one vote. • How is that fair?

Great Fear • Peasant feared the nobles would react by hiring outlaws to terrorize them. • Destroyed legal papers, and in some instances burned down homes • Parisian women rioted over the price of bread. • Stormed into Versailles and for King Louis XVI & Queen Marie Antoinette to Paris. • Why Paris?
