30. Unlike other graduate programs that are
geared strictly to academic and research
pursuits, our program emphasizes
application and professional development.
The cultivation of certain professional
competencies and interpersonal skills is at
the heart of the learning process. Some of
these competencies include:
31. Learning good interpersonal skills and maintaining good working relationships with faculty and other students
Developing personal awareness about your own behavior, belief systems, emotions, attitudes, and personal history. Know thyself.
Taking personal responsibility for your actions (scheduling classes, securing field placements in a timely manner, communicating with your advisor and professors).
32. Supporting and facilitating the development of one another.
Recognizing the competencies and limitations of your professional skill.
Addressing issues and conflicts with maturity and mutual respect.
33. The faculty embrace the professional practice in the classroom model
We expect that your classroom behavior, attendance, and quality of participation will be followed just as if you were in the professional workplace
It is through these expectations and requirements that we assess your professional competencies
34. The field placement experiences include Practicum I, Practicum II, and Internship.
The student handbook and department website provide information about finding and securing a placement site.
35. A podcast which provides specific information to secure a field placement site is located on the departments website. All students should view this podcast the semester prior to enrolling in any field placement course.
36.
Prompt attendance for meetings with clients, staff, and supervisor(s).
Contact the site if delayed or absent.
Respect for clients and co-workers regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, religion, ethnicity, status of disability, or social and family background.
37. Conduct yourself in an ethical, legal, and honest manner in all professional dealings. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients. Maintain confidentiality. You are expected to read and fully understand the CRCC Code of Ethics located in the Student Handbook on-line, which details the ethics for professional behavior.
39. Some final thoughts:
You are diplomats of our program in this community.
Your professional growth and conduct play a significant role in the facultys willingness and ability to write letters of recommendation for employment and/or future academic opportunities, direct you to employment possibilities, and facilitate community contacts.
