Background • URL: www.moodle.org • Developed by Martin Dougiamas • He released version 1.0 of moodle on August 20, 2002 • As moodle has spread and the community has grown, more input is being drawn from a wider variety of people in different teaching situations. • An important feature of the Moodle Project is the moodle.org • In the year 2003, moodle.com was launched.

  3. What is moodle? • Moodle is a course management system (CMS), a free, Open Source software package designed using sound pedagogical principles, to help educators create effective online learning communities.

  4. What is moodle? (cont.) Pedagogical principles has 4 main concepts: • Contructivism • Constructionism • Social Construtivism • Connected and Separate

  5. What is moodle? (cont.) • -Moodle has a large and diverse user community with over 50,000 users registered in this site alone, speaking 60 languages in 115 countries. • - The word moodle was originally an acronym for Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning System, which is mostly useful to programmers and educations theorists

  6. Technical Specifications • Any web server software. Apache is the most commonly used. • PHP Scripting Language (version 4.1.0 or later) • Working database server: Recommended ones are MySQL and PostgreSQL.

Moodle Highlights • Shows the courses where the student is currently enrolled on • Administration can keep track of what the student does (Activity report) e.g. how many times he viewed a certain topic • Their main feature is their software packages being an open source meaning free to be distributed and to be modified by the users
