  1. Critical Condition Reflections

  2. Some of the words that you heard in the video. Please add these notes to your assignment.

  3. Edema is an abnormal accumulation of fluid beneath the skin or in one or more cavities of the body.

  4. Peripheral vascular disease-Peripheral artery disease is a condition of the blood vessels that leads to narrowing and hardening of the arteries that supply the legs and feet.

  5. Cirrhosis is scarring of the liver and poor liver function as a result of chronic liver disease.

  6. Kyphosis is a curving of the spine that causes a bowing or rounding of the back, which leads to a hunchback or slouching posture

  7. Chemotherapy, in the most simple sense, is the treatment of an ailment by chemicals[1] especially by killing micro-organisms or cancerous cells.

  8. Remission is the state of absence of disease activity in patients with a chronic illness, with the possibility of return of disease activity

  9. A pre-existing conditionis a risk with extant causes that is not readily compensated by standard, affordable insurance premiums. Pre-existing condition exclusions by the insurance industry are meant to cope with adverse selection by potential customers. Such exclusions have become a topic in the health care reform debate in the United States in 2009 and 2010. Several surveys over that period have shown a very strong opposition to the exclusions and support for banning them

  10. Insurance premium=payment for insurance.

  11. Thoughts • Now that you had a chance to view health care in action, (is this one word or 2?) take a moment to reflect on what you think of the outcomes of the people involved. Your paper should be 1 page and handed in the following class. You may write on the back of this page (Green initiative)

  12. Dig deeper • Consider what you feel might have been different for them if they had been able to take on a more active part of their health care.

  13. Your choice • Would you have been able to do anything differently if it had been you?

  14. Who is responsible? • What responsibility does the health care system have in providing care for these people?

  15. Were you moved, inspired, angry.. • What was the most inspiring thing that you saw? What was the most disappointing thing that you saw?
