  5. Human Trafficking “Trafficking in persons is a modern-day form of slavery, a new type of global slave trade. Perpetrators prey on the most weak among us, primarily women and children, for profit and gain …” – Condoleezza Rice, 2007

  6. Sexual trafficking and prostitution - the ultimate violence against women. In June 2006: estimated 600,000 to 2,000,000 women and children are trafficked across international borders every year (this number does not include millions trafficked within their own countries). 80% of these transnational victims are women and girls. Most of them end up in forced prostitution, and sexual exploitation.

  7. “Sex trafficking … in which a commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud, or coercion, or in which the person induced to perform such an act has not attained 18 years of age.” Defined by the TVPA (Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000)

Scope and Magnitude • The dark nature of the trade makes it impossible to obtain accurate data or precise statistics on the extent of the problem. • Whatever we know is but the tip of the iceberg. • No country or region in the world is unaffected. • They are either a destination country, or a transit country, or a sending country. Many countries can be all three, or any of the two.

How about USA ? • Estimated 14,500 to 17,500 men, women, and children are trafficked into US each year, primarily for the sex industry. • With low risk and high profit potential, HT may well become the new crime of choice. • Young women can be sold for US$16,000 each. They are forced to work off “debts” to traffickers of US$40,000 by serving dozens of men per day. • It is a multi-billion dollars industry !!!

CSE has to be condemned, because … • It is the image of God in these women and girls that has been violated and damaged. • The damages inflicted are not just physical, but also spiritual, which is hurtful to the core of the soul. • Double victimization – they are sinned against; yet at the same time, blamed for being sinful.

In the New Testament, The term “pleroma” plhroma in Greek, translated “fullness” in English, is often used to describe a characteristic of God, as manifested in the incarnate Christ, being filled with the glory of grace and truth. Vision Pleroma The Word became flesh and made his dwelling (pitched a tent) among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only , who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

Proposal #1: Pleroma Home for Girls 豐榮女兒之家 Set up a safe haven for girls under 18, who have been victims or at high risk for being victims of sexual trafficking, in which they will be nurtured holistically to realize their full potential as God’s precious daughters, and experience the fullness of God in Christ for them, with the glorious image of God restored to them. • Provide holistic Christian • formation: • Enabling them to grow • physically, mentally, • socially, intellectually • and spiritually. • Provide vocational • training: • Empowering them toward • self-sufficiency and • integration into society.

  32. Proposal #2: Pleroma Women Center 豐榮婦女中心 Set up a women center nearby the Home for Girls to reach out to the community. This will provide us a window to work closely with the local churches and community for evangelizing and empowering girls and women, as well as to establish FiCF’s credibility in the community. Conduct Preventive Workshops: Educating women and girls in local factories and community, e.g. self-identity and worth, parenting, home management, hygiene and nutrition, computer literacy, etc..Long-term Goals: Train “victims” to be missionaries to minister to the trafficked victims; encourage Christian businessmen and women to set up factories to provide job opportunities for them.

Working with police: 40% are traffickers or support them Working with staff: traumatized from working with victims; professional and contextualized training (besides the Bible!) needed Presenting Christianity: a choice but not compulsory in Centers Support for FiCF: networking with agencies in various stages; provide neutral place for meeting with government agencies & other agencies Advice: start small and provide quality training for counselors & moms
