  1. Chungking Mansions: A Global Experience What will your sensory experience be?? What stories will you find? Is it truly the ‘ghetto at the centre of the world?’

  2. What will you do? You need to collect evidence to find out stories: The building Economic activity People

  3. How? • Observe • Listen • Smell and taste • Talk to people Gather information that will tell the story of Chungking Mansions as a building, as a centre of economic activity, as a workplace and residential area for people.

  4. Think about what questions you want to ask… You want to be able to find out how Chungking Mansions operates as a centre of globalisation.

  5. Some key concepts to know.. • Global interactions • Core-periphery model (world systems analysis) • Low end globalisation • Informal sector • Ghettoisation

  6. IMPORTANT: • Meet at 1.20pm at the front of school • Bring your Octopus card • You will need to be in mixed gender groups of at least 5. • Girls: Dress conservatively. Knee length shorts/skirts. • When inside the building, stick in your groups, avoid the alley ways at the back of the building, be sensitive and aware. • Probably don’t venture higher than the 2nd floor.
