Martin Luther King Jr. • Pastor of a Baptist church. • Meetings at the church were to plan a protest against segregation. • December 5th 1955, people (blacks and some whites) refused to ride city busses. Montgomery ImprovementAssociation • Formed during the bus boycott, by black ministers and leaders. • Martin Luther King was declared the president of the association. • Goals were to improve race relations.   6. Society’s Response to the Boycott • Police officers would arrest people waiting for rides. • Carpoolers were constantly ticketed. • Drivers and passengers were arrested.   7. Results of the Boycott • Segregation was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme court. • 381 days since the beginning, the Montgomery bus boycott ended. • The most successful uprising in history.
