  1. DIRECTIONS TO THE UNIVERSITY OF BRISTOL “SCIENCE OF PLEASURE” COURSE Via Motorway: From the M4, take the M32 (exit 19 – it only goes south from here), and follow the M32 four miles to its end, at which point you need to be in the right hand lane. Follow the traffic rightward, in 200 meters there will be a very large roundabout with traffic lights (Saint James Barton roundabout). Take the second exit off the roundabout (marked Clifton), and follow this along the main road. From Bristol: Berkeley Square is just off “The Triangle” on the east edge of Clifton. A map is attached. 8-10 Berkeley Square is on the map on square # 7D; it is labelled "82" and has a pink hand pointing at it. To get there from the Saint James Barton roundabout (the main roundabout next to the Coach station), leave on the exit marked “Clifton” (putting you on Marlborough Street). At this point you are on the map at the bright orange arrow (square K3). You can follow the main road westward (until just before the 6th traffic light), and then park at the NCP car park (its entrance is on your left, and it is marked with small red arrows on the map). There is another NCP car park whose entrance is just another 300 meters forward on the main road.

  2. EXTRA DIRECTIONS TO THE UNIVERSITY OF BRISTOL’S PUBLIC PROGRAMMES BLDG THE ADDRESS: 8-10 Berkeley Square, Clifton, Bristol BS8 Parking: Generally long term (> 3 hours) parking in the University District is nearly impossible during the daytime. In the evenings there is often parking in Berkeley Square itself – it is pay-and-display parking. On Saturdays competition for parking may make the endeavour fruitless – you are probably best off at one of the two NCP nearby car parks (see other page with map). Train Information: Note that there are two train stations for Bristol. You want Bristol TEMPLE MEADS, which is relatively near the centre of the city (approximately 10 minutes by car and 35 minutes by foot from the Medical School). The other train station (Bristol Parkway) is approximately 5 miles outside the north end of the city, and it is a 25 minute drive (£25 taxi fare) to get from there to the Medical School. The two train stations are NOT on the same rail line (ie some trains go to one of the two stations, but not to both stations), so you must check that the train you get on is going to Bristol TEMPLE MEADS; for most relevant trains from London, Temple Meads is the final destination. From Temple Meads rail station, the University is about a mile away; while it is possible to walk or find a bus (# 8 or 9), the simplest and most direct option is definitely to take a taxi (approximate cost £8-10). Note that during rush hours (particularly between 16:15 and 18:00) the taxi journey between Temple Meads and the University will be much more time consuming (could last up to 25 minutes) and therefore more costly. http://www.rail.co.uk Bus, coach and National Express Bristol’s central bus/coach terminal is right in the city centre and quite near the University (3 mins by car, 10 mins by foot). On the University grid map, the coach station is located in grid position K3. It is certainly possible to walk from the bus station to Berkeley Square (approximately 15 minutes), and it is along a single road, but for someone unfamiliar with the city, it may be easiest to take a taxi to the university – a taxi ride should take less than 5 minutes and cost £ 7-8. http://www.nationalexpress.com
