  1. LACK OF AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION AGENTS IN APEMANIM AND DIDA COMMUNITIES_ATWIMA KWAHOMA DISTRICT_ASHANTI REGION

INTRODUCTION • Agricultural extension is the provision of knowledge and skills necessary for farming to be able to adapt and apply more efficient crops and animal production methods to improve productivity and living standards. • Therefore in a broad sense, an agricultural extension agent is any personnel who aims at imparting these agricultural processes and teaching rural people how to increase their productivities.

  3. OBJECTIVES The main objective of an agricultural extension agent is to transfer agricultural information to improve productivity of farmers and build their capacities. Other objectives are • To make available to farmers the improved methods of farming. • To teach farmers how to effectively and efficiently use limited resources to increase productivity. • To help farmers realize better income from their farm enterprise. • To empower farmers so that they contribute towards nation building.

  4. THE PROBLEM Lack of extension agents in the Apemanim and Dida farming communities in the AtwimaKwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region

PROPOSED SOLUTION TO PROBLEM In one way or the other, we can help provide an agricultural agent by; • GROUP FORMATION • The assemblyman in connection with the students of Kwadaso Agricultural College[KAC] will assembly all farmers in the community and their names written. • A day will be set for group meeting. • The farmers in each group will be assisted to elect their own leaders. • The grievances of the farmers will be carried to the MOFA district office by the students of Kwadaso Agricultural College in collaboration with the leaders of the group formed.

ADVANTAGES FOR THE GROUP FORMATION • Group formation will help farmers to get Agricultural Extension Agents for the communities. • Bank loans will be easy to access as farmers are in groups. • Farmers in groups can obtain any kind of assistance from MOFA or an NGO. • Learning from each other and sharing of ideas would be significantly improved. • Certain technological gadgets and implements can be shared by the members of a particular group. Example, knapsack spraying machine.

  7. Solution continues • The students of the College will take it upon themselves to visit farmers at least once in a month. • The problems of the farmers will be taken and an immediate action will be executed. • These problems will be delivered to MOFA at the district office and will surely be attended. • These will create the awareness of MOFA to solve and provide an AEA to the said communities.
