Now I for one still believe that gift certificates might come in handy in many occasions. But, do me a favor guys. If you are really gifting someone a voucher, make sure you hand it over with a bouquet of flowers. Flowers can win everyone’s heart over. If you are thinking about a neutral gift do not waste it on gift certificates unless you know for sure what they really like, which store they purchase from, what offers they would like and want to avail and other such preferences. If not, then flowers are the best way to go! Flowers come in different shapes, sizes, colors and come with a special gift which is a smile and a smile can go a long mile isn’t it? Adding a simple, short and sweet hand-written note is all that is needed to make it personalized enough for your colleagues to know that you have a thought behind it.

And why flowers can be a better gifting option than them How often do you find yourself in a situation where you do not know what to give as a gift to a certain colleague or acquaintance? It is so difficult sometimes to know the perfect gift. Will this be useful to them? Will they like it? What if it is too cheap? There are so many random thoughts that come to your mind before you finally go and decide to buy that one perfect gift. And if nothing works what is the last option that you have? Gift Certificates! In this post, we will also compare why flower gifting is a much better option compared to Gift Certificates. 1

  2. Gift Certificates, also known as Gift Card, are considered to be a better gift than giving cash and fulfill our job of not going through too much hassle in buying a gift. As much as you might think that gift certificates are the best thing to be gifted. Well let me break your thoughts and tell you that is a big lie! Gift certificates are a complete failure in the name of gifts and here’s why. 2

  3. When you are thinking in your mind to give them cash but instead end up giving gift certificates. That’s the worst ever thing you could have done. Believe me, everybody likes to open a small envelope and see a stack of notes than a big box of empty happiness. That is the reality of life. And imagine what happens when your friends open the envelope to find out that there is no cash but coupons and vouchers. For one it is a hassle for most people to go and buy whatever is worth the purchase in exchange of tat coupon. And friends, if you think you are giving a relaxing time to them at the spa then you are so very wrong. Because if out of their busy schedule they had the time to attend a spa massage they could have gone themselves. As thoughtful as you think the gift certificate is, it may not be of so much worth to your friend/colleague. 3

  4. Don’t forget they come with an expiry date which basically defeats the sole purpose of giving someone a ‘gift’. A gift is something which gives people a reminder of nice, happy things. But if the happy thing comes with an expiry date what is the point anyway? As much as you might think you have got out of the hassle of searching for that one perfect gift, it is not entirely true. Sometimes it might even backfire as the voucher you give them, it might not even be something that they like. What happens then? Merely, your time and money goes to waste and so does the voucher! And don’t think they come in free of cost! Usually any discount coupon and voucher has the trademark “Conditions Applied” to them. They are practically useless if the person you gift them to has to spare some own money from their pockets to avail a purchase. 4

  5. And might I add they actually tell your friends the purpose behind giving them a gift is that you have ‘given up’. Do you really want to make it that obvious? Never given a thought to that, eh? 5
